Casa Loros Bed & Breakfast

Progress Report

January, 2010 thru December, 2010

This is the Casa Loros Progress Report for 2010.

Accomplishments this year are as follows:

We hope you enjoy the photos below.  Remember to click on the thumbnails to enlarge them.  They were taken during the period of January thru December of 2010.

The photos on this page were taken by Fred unless otherwise noted.

Each group of photos is immediately followed by their description.

These photos show the main room of the house with its final paint.  The ceilings throughout the house are white and the walls are pale yellow.  These photos were taken in October, 2009.

All of the photos in this group and the one which follows were taken in April, 2010.  The first photo in this series shows the house and its new railing.  The second and third show the railing from the Plaza Grande.  Juan Carlos is featured in the first of these two.   Since these were taken, additional railing has been completed and installed.  All of the wood work and doors are hand made of local cedar and custom fit by local artisans.  It's less expensive to have them made individually than it is to purchase them in a home supply store.  The quality is outstanding.  The fourth photo shows the front of the home from the Southernmost corner of the Plaza Grande and the main entry door.  The last shows the main entry door from the inside.  Notice that there are no screens on the windows.  None are required because there are no insects, at least the kind that bite you.

One of the outings Fred took on this trip in April involved purchasing the furniture for the home.  Here are a few of the pieces he acquired.  He also purchased furniture for all of the bedrooms and a refrigerator.  The color of the walls appears to be white in this series of photos, but it's a trick of the lighting.  The walls are actually pale yellow.

This group of photos was taken by Juan Carlos, our architect and project manager, on June 1.  The first shows the front of the house from the north looking south east.  Notice the cap on top of the flower bed wall at the bottom of the screen and that stucco has been applied to the foundation at the back of the flower bed.  The entire foundation will be finished like this portion has been finished.  Soon, planting of exotic flowers and scrubs will begin.

The next two photos are of workmen installing ceiling fans in the pool area and in the guest room on the upper level.

The last four show, from various angles. the initial installation of the kitchen cabinets.  .

The countertops were installed the week of June 21, 2010.  Also visible in the leftmost photo is the corner of the kitchen sink and the window above i which looks to the north.  The second photo shows the sink, its window, the dishwasher to the left of the sink and the cooking stove to the right.  Photo #3 is another view from the front porch and includes one of the local rocking chairs which we purchased.  The fourth from the right is the bodega followed by the water tank which will be buried on this trip.  The next photo shows the bed in the master bedroom suite with a view of the front door and a bit of the great room.  The following shows the installed single room air conditioner for the master suite, and the last is of the south side of the house from the parking area.  Note that the steel stairway had been installed.

These photos were taken during Thanksgiving week.  The first is another photo taken from the parking area on the south side of the house.  The air conditioners have been installed in all sleeping rooms.  Each room has its own thermostat.  Under normal conditions, you won't need air conditioning.. The evenings are cool and during the day there's a wonderful cool breeze that comes up the mountain from the sea.  Also note that the soffit at the top of the lower level has been finished.  The second photo is of the Grand Plaza looking north.  Number three photo is of two of the local hand made rocking chairs and a table.  All three pieces were made in Sarchi.  There is a local outlet for this furniture.  The next two photos show off the beautiful mahogany cabinetry of the kitchen.  Also shown are the double stainless steel sink, dishwasher and glass top cooking range.  The last photo is of the upstairs guest room.  From its sunny windows, you can see the jungle on the mountains behind Casa Loros.  You can also step outside into our covered patio to see more of the surrounding jungle and the ocean in the front.
